Securing an industrial site

The reality of an industrial site and distribution centre

A production site or distribution centre is rarely a closed unit. Multiple access gates, a long perimeter, rows of loading and unloading docks, external hauliers, outdoor storage, on-site transformers and sometimes ATEX zones make the risk profile fundamentally different from that of an office building. Copper theft, diesel theft and cargo theft are real threats whenever the operation is at a standstill. At the same time, a perimeter alarm must not disrupt the night shift or the early planning team with false alerts.

We see security for industry and logistics as an interplay of early perimeter detection, video verification and tight alarm response. A well-designed system detects the intruder before they reach the facade, gives the alarm receiving centre (ARC) immediate imagery, and only triggers a physical response when necessary. At the same time, those same cameras and access systems must support the flow of logistics during the day, not hinder it.

As a VEB-certified security company, we design, install and maintain perimeter and site security for industry, as well as security for warehouses, distribution centres, production halls and outdoor yards. You gain a single point of contact for perimeter security, video surveillance across the site, access registration at docks, fire safety in warehouses and 24/7 alarm response via a certified alarm receiving centre (ARC).

What logistics and operations managers run into

Many briefs in industry and logistics start from one of these six situations. Recognise more than one? Then a quick scan of your site and installations is a logical first step.

Large site with multiple gates and docks

A perimeter of several hundred metres, two or three main gates, a haulier entrance and a row of loading and unloading docks make manual supervision impossible. We design perimeter security with differentiated zones, so that logistics run smoothly during the day while you have full detection across every part of the site outside working hours.

Copper and diesel theft outside working hours

Stocks of copper, aluminium, cable reels and diesel in outdoor tanks are attractive to organised theft. A single overnight break-in can cost tens of thousands of euros in damage and operational downtime. We combine fence detection, thermal cameras and immediate video verification so that the alarm receiving centre intercepts an attempt in its early stages.

Maintenance during continuous operation

A production site running around the clock leaves little room for downtime during periodic maintenance. We schedule inspections and updates alongside your production planning, so that compliance remains demonstrable without the operation faltering. Across multiple sites, we consolidate the maintenance into a single framework contract.

Changing hauliers at the docks

External logistics providers, charter drivers and your own transport use the same loading docks. Without access control for drivers, you cannot tell after the event who was at which dock and when. With intercom and a card or code system per dock, you prevent unauthorised access and have a concrete log in the event of an incident.

Older buildings with layered installations

Production sites often grow in phases. A fire alarm system from the 1990s alongside a modern extension, a control panel by the gatehouse that is no longer supported, and cameras from three different suppliers. We map out what can stay, what requires migration and what is difficult to replace.

Certifications such as TAPA and AEO

A client or insurer asks for TAPA certification (the Transported Asset Protection Association standard), or you need demonstrable security measures for your AEO status (Authorised Economic Operator). That places demands on perimeter, access, imagery and logging that are not automatically part of a standard package. We design the installation in line with the TAPA requirements and supply the documentation you can present during audit and recertification. Our systems

Security systems for industry and logistics

We combine proven systems into a whole that suits the size of your site, your VRKI risk class for industry and the nature of your processes. Each system works independently, but the added value emerges when perimeter, access, imagery, fire and the alarm receiving centre are well aligned.

Perimeter security and fence detection

Radar, infrared beams, fence-detection cables and thermal cameras detect approaches up to several hundred metres from the facade. Combined with video verification, this delivers reliable detection without false alarms from weather conditions or animals. Explore the options under perimeter & site security.

Video surveillance across the site

HD and 4K cameras for entrances, car parks, loading and unloading docks, outdoor storage and production halls. Including number-plate registration and secure image storage with redundancy. Also suitable for AI-driven object recognition. Read more on the CCTV & video surveillance page.

Access control, intercom and number-plate recognition

Badges, number plates, codes or intercom govern passage at the main gate, the haulier entrance and each loading dock individually. With intercom and a number-plate camera, you can see who passes through automatically and who must report in, ideal for sites without a permanently staffed gatehouse. Find more details under access control.

Early fire detection with thermal cameras

Thermal cameras detect a hotspot before any smoke or flame is visible. For warehouses with high racking, battery storage or fire-hazardous processes, that delivers the minutes you need to intervene. We integrate the thermal detection with your fire alarm system and the alarm receiving centre.

Warehouse fire alarm system

Detection in line with the Dutch standard NEN 2535 for production halls, warehouses and plant rooms. Aspirating systems for high storage, transmission to the fire brigade and alignment with your sprinkler supplier. Read more under fire alarm systems.

ATEX execution for hazardous zones

For zones with an explosion risk under ATEX classification, we supply certified detectors, cameras and control cabinets. The design follows your zone layout and the applicable PGS guidelines, so that security in these environments is demonstrably compliant and does not itself introduce additional risk.

Six areas of focus

What sets security for industry and logistics apart

Securing a production site or distribution centre rarely has a standard answer. The right combination depends on the size of your site, your processes, your building function and the day-to-day reality of your operation. These six topics recur in almost every advisory project.

Perimeter detection and fence security

Radar, IR beams, fence-detection cable and video verification together form the outermost shell. We select the technology per zone, so that dense vegetation, animals or freight traffic do not lead to false alerts. Detection takes place before anyone reaches the facade.

Loading and unloading docks

Authorisation per dock, intercom with imagery, a camera with number-plate registration and a log of every movement. This keeps you on top of changing hauliers and external logistics providers without your planners spending the whole day on the phone.

Periodic inspections and certification

Fire alarm systems, extinguishers and emergency lighting require annual inspection in line with the Dutch standards NEN 2654-1 and NEN-EN 1838. We carry out the inspections, supply reports for your insurer and the competent authority, and monitor the cycle so that certification remains demonstrably in place.

Warehouse fire safety

With high racking and compartmentation, the fire alarm system, smoke and heat extraction and evacuation alarm are interdependent. We design in line with the Dutch standard NEN 2535 and coordinate with any sprinkler supplier you have, the risk assessment and the fire brigade.

Copper theft and perimeter

Organised theft targets copper, diesel, catalytic converters and cargo. Video verification, fence detection and immediate alarm receiving centre response intercept an attempt before any damage is done. This way you prevent not only loss but also production downtime.

Expansion and new build

A new hall, an additional distribution-centre location or the takeover of a building. We select scalable platforms that can be managed centrally across multiple sites and that grow with your organisation. This way you avoid investing in a separate installation with every expansion.

How we work

From site survey to working industrial security

We manage the entire process with our own engineers and advisers, so that quality does not depend on subcontractors. Four steps, clearly documented and aligned with your production and logistics rhythm.

1

Site survey and risk analysis

We walk the site together with your operations manager, facility manager or HSE coordinator. We map the perimeter, assess gates, docks, outdoor storage and existing installations, and gather the requirements of your insurer, the fire brigade and the risk assessment.

2

Security plan and phasing

You receive a plan with detection zones, system choices and a clear quotation. On larger projects we work in phases, so that you invest step by step without bringing production to a standstill. Including substantiation for your insurer and the fire brigade.

3

Installation within your production rhythm

Our technicians schedule the work in consultation with your planning, shift roster and SLAs. Cable routes and fence penetrations are carried out with minimal disruption to your operation.

4

Handover, certification and follow-up

After installation we test every zone, every camera and every signal transmission. You receive the VEB certificate and an instruction for your emergency-response team and gatekeeper, and the alarm receiving centre connection is activated. From that moment you fall under our service organisation.

Assurance

One point of contact for every installation on your site

The larger your production site or distribution centre, the more extensive the collection of installations. Perimeter detection from one supplier, fire detection from a second, cameras from a third, a sprinkler from a fourth and access control from a fifth. When a fault occurs, the discussion often begins with the question of who is responsible, while your production waits for an answer.

With our integrated installation management service, you bring all these disciplines together under one party, with one contract, one point of contact and a fixed annual price including maintenance, inspections and a fault-response service. This way you are no longer the coordinator between several suppliers and you can be certain that certifications, annual inspections and maintenance cycles are carried out on time. Across multiple sites under central management too.

Frequently asked questions about security for industry and logistics

The VRKI for industry has classes 1 to 4 and is determined by your insurer based on sector, the nature of the goods stored, location and historical claims. For distribution centres with valuable cargo, electronics or food, the class is usually 3 or 4. We carry out a VRKI analysis in every advisory project and align perimeter detection, video surveillance and alarm response accordingly. Alongside electronic measures, the package also includes structural and organisational elements such as fencing and key management.

Copper theft and diesel theft call for early perimeter detection combined with immediate video verification. The offender must be detected before the fencing or right at entry, so that our alarm receiving centre can direct the response before any damage is done. We deploy fence-detection cable, IR beams, thermal cameras and number-plate recognition together. For outdoor tanks we recommend additional local detection and lockable caps with a tamper alarm. The combination of perimeter security and rapid response is demonstrably more effective than reinforced structural measures alone.

Yes. For sites with an ATEX zone or storage in line with PGS 15, PGS 31 or comparable guidelines, we use certified equipment and our engineers work according to the prescribed method. We align the design with your safety expert and the competent authority and supply the documentation, so that during an audit or inspection you can demonstrate, with substantiation, that the installation falls within the zone layout and the guideline.

A fire alarm system in a warehouse is never separate from the sprinkler. Transmissions, control signals and the control of smoke and heat extraction must connect to one another, as must the annual certification dates. We supply the fire alarm system in line with the Dutch standard NEN 2535 and align both design and maintenance with your sprinkler supplier. With integrated management we can take over the coordination entirely if you wish, so that you have a single point of contact.

False alarms undermine any response. We work with layered detection in which perimeter detection first delivers an early warning that the alarm receiving centre verifies via video. Only on a confirmed event does a genuine alarm follow to the keyholder or patrol. In addition, we choose detectors with AI analysis that distinguish between person, vehicle and animal. This way your night shift continues and a response is only made when it matters.

Yes. For organisations with multiple production sites or distribution centres, we supply platforms that can be managed centrally. Video surveillance, access control and alerts come together in a central environment, with rights and reporting per site. Your regional manager or central HSE department keeps oversight without logging in to a separate system per site.

Yes. Our integrated installation management service brings perimeter security, site video surveillance, access control, fire alarm system, evacuation alarm and the alarm receiving centre connection together under one party, one contract and one point of contact. That saves you considerably on coordination, prevents disputes when faults occur and ensures that inspections and certifications happen automatically on time. Across multiple sites under one framework contract too.
