CCTV for business

Your CCTV system, from first advice to day-to-day management

A CCTV system, also referred to as video surveillance or IP camera monitoring, has become the eyes of your security setup. Where traditional analogue CCTV mainly captured images, a modern IP system gives you real-time insight into your premises, automatic alerts on suspicious behaviour and high-resolution evidence when it is needed. By linking IP cameras to your intruder alarm or access control, you create a single, coherent security solution.

At Cebec we have been working in security technology for more than 50 years. As a CCTV company we design a video surveillance system for business that suits your building, your risks and your budget. Whether it concerns a single shop, a commercial property with an outdoor area, a construction site or a multi-site organisation, you receive a professional CCTV system with one fixed point of contact.

Because camera footage falls under the GDPR, we take the privacy rules into account in our design. From positioning and the masking of public areas to the retention period for footage and the mandatory signage. This way you have a CCTV system that is both effective and legally compliant.

Camera types

Which type of camera suits your situation?

A professional CCTV system rarely consists of a single camera type. For each zone we select the model that best fits in technical terms and field of view. Below are the six types we apply most often, from bullet and dome cameras to PTZ, fisheye and number-plate recognition.

Bullet cameras

An elongated model, weatherproof and ideal for targeted long-range monitoring. Suitable for car parks, site boundaries, loading docks and facade surveillance. Available with infrared up to 80 metres and ColorVu for colour images in low light.

Dome & turret cameras

Discreet and vandal-resistant, with a hemispherical (dome) or conical (turret) housing. Widely used in shops, offices, corridors and reception areas, where the aesthetic design matters and the viewing direction should not be visible.

PTZ cameras

Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras, operable remotely and with optical zoom up to 40x. With auto-tracking the camera automatically follows people or vehicles. Ideal for large sites, car parks and business parks where a single camera must cover several positions.

Fisheye & panoramic cameras

Capture an entire space in 360 degrees with a single camera, without blind spots. Suitable for open-plan offices, shops and warehouses where you want a complete overview yet can still zoom in digitally on a specific incident.

Thermal cameras

Thermal imaging cameras detect people and vehicles in total darkness, fog or smoke. Perfect for the perimeter security of industrial sites, construction sites and unmanned locations where ordinary cameras fall short.

Number-plate cameras (ANPR)

Automatic number-plate recognition for car parks, logistics entrances and company car parks. With a whitelist or blacklist the barrier opens automatically or you are alerted to an unwanted visitor.

Camera technology

Modern CCTV technology, tailored

Hardware is one thing; the intelligence behind it makes the difference. The technologies below determine how usable, reliable and efficient your CCTV system is in practice.

4K and high resolution

Modern IP cameras deliver 4 or 8 megapixels (4K Ultra HD), and for critical applications even 16-megapixel models are now available. This captures so much detail that you can zoom in digitally on faces, number plates or product codes in recordings without loss of quality. Ideal for evidence.

ColorVu and starlight night vision

Where traditional IR cameras produce black-and-white images, ColorVu and starlight cameras deliver colour images in very low light. The colours of clothing and vehicles remain visible at night, which makes identification considerably easier.

Deep Learning AI analysis

The camera itself recognises whether a person, vehicle or other object is in view. False alarms caused by animals, branches or rain are all but eliminated. Smart detection functions such as line crossing and intrusion detection respond only to relevant movement.

Wide Dynamic Range (WDR)

At entrances, shop windows or quaysides, large differences in light are an everyday occurrence. WDR balances bright sunlight and deep shadow within a single image, so you always have usable recordings, even when people move against the light.

Integration

Your CCTV system as part of your total security setup

A CCTV system works best when it operates together with the rest of your security. Linking it to the intruder alarm allows the alarm receiving centre (ARC) to view the footage directly on alarm through video verification, so false alerts are filtered out and genuine incidents are followed up more quickly. Integration with access control also records the identity of people as they pass through.

Through a Video Management System (VMS) you manage multiple sites, camera brands and recorders from a single dashboard. Footage can be monitored 24/7 by our alarm receiving centre. This turns your CCTV into an active link in your security, rather than merely a tool for reviewing footage after the event.

Our approach

From camera plan to handover

We always begin with a conversation and an on-site survey. On that basis we draw up a camera plan that fits your situation, privacy requirements and budget. Our own technicians carry out the installation, so you have one fixed point of contact from design through to handover.

1

Survey & risk assessment

We review the site, the buildings and the processes, discuss your objectives and determine the risk areas and bottlenecks for image capture.

2

Camera plan & quotation

You receive a floor plan with camera positions, sight lines, camera types and coverage zones. Including network design, storage calculation and a clear quotation.

3

Installation & configuration

Our technicians install the cameras, network switches and the NVR or VMS. Cabling is neatly concealed and image settings are configured on site.

4

Handover & instruction

We test all cameras, set the retention period and AI rules and give you thorough instruction on the app and the management system. Including camera signage and a privacy statement.

Privacy & GDPR

Camera surveillance and the GDPR

There is no legal obligation to install a CCTV system, but as soon as you do, the footage falls under the GDPR. The Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) sets three core conditions for camera surveillance by businesses. We embed these as standard in our design.

Legitimate interest

You may install cameras where there is a legitimate interest, for example theft prevention, the protection of property or the safety of employees. The cameras may only film what is strictly necessary for that purpose. Public areas such as the pavement or street are masked as standard through privacy masking.

Retention period for footage

The Dutch Data Protection Authority applies a maximum retention period of four weeks as a guideline. In the event of an incident, footage may be retained longer for investigation. We configure your NVR or cloud storage so that footage is automatically overwritten after the set period.

Duty to inform

Visitors and staff must be aware that cameras are in place. That means clear camera signage at every entrance and a privacy statement setting out the purpose, retention period and rights. We supply both as standard on handover of your CCTV system.

Frequently asked questions about CCTV

Traditional CCTV is analogue and sends the image to a DVR via coaxial cable. A modern IP system works digitally over the data network (PoE), delivers much higher resolution and offers smart functions such as AI detection, remote viewing and integration with other systems. IP cameras are now the standard for a professional CCTV system in business.

You must have a legitimate interest for installing cameras and may not capture more than is necessary. Public areas such as the pavement or street may not be filmed as standard. In addition, you are obliged to inform visitors with camera signage and to make a privacy statement available. For large systems or sensitive processing, a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) is required.

The Dutch Data Protection Authority applies a maximum retention period of four weeks as a guideline. After an incident you may retain footage longer if it is needed for investigation or legal proceedings. We configure the CCTV system so that footage is automatically overwritten after the set period.

That depends on the size of the site, the number of entrances and the coverage you require. During the survey we determine together which areas are a priority. Often a few strategically placed cameras with high resolution and a wide field of view are more effective than a large number of randomly positioned cameras.

Yes. With video verification the alarm receiving centre views the cameras live as soon as the intruder alarm is triggered. False alerts are filtered out and, in the event of a genuine incident, the police can be called in immediately. The integration works with virtually all well-known intruder and access control systems.

Modern IP cameras with infrared illumination deliver usable black-and-white images up to around 30 to 80 metres in total darkness. For colour images in low light there are cameras with ColorVu, starlight or built-in white LED illumination. Very dark or smoky environments call for thermal cameras.

We work as standard with Hikvision and Hanwha. Both brands are among the world leaders in professional IP CCTV and offer a broad portfolio, from compact Hikvision dome cameras to powerful PTZ and AI cameras. For business installations Hikvision is the most frequently chosen brand for its price-to-quality ratio and ColorVu technology, making for an excellent outdoor IP camera. We determine the final choice of brand during the design, based on your situation, budget and any existing equipment we can reuse.
