Business intruder alarm

A tailored business intruder alarm system for your situation

No two commercial premises are the same. A distribution centre holding high-value goods calls for a different security system than an office or workshop. That is why we begin every project with a risk assessment. What is the value of the goods, how is the building constructed, who are the users and what does your insurer require? The answers determine how robust the intruder protection of your premises needs to be.

On that basis we design an intruder alarm installation for your business in line with the VRKI 2.0, the national guideline issued by the Dutch Association of Insurers. For every type of business intruder alarm we carry out the full intake, prepare an intake document and deliver the system with a VEB certificate that your insurer accepts.

Insurance requirements

What requirements must a business intruder alarm meet?

Unlike fire alarm systems, an intruder alarm for your business is not a legal requirement. Insurers, however, almost always apply the VRKI 2.0 as a minimum requirement. This guideline from the Dutch Association of Insurers classifies premises by risk class and sets out, for each class, which security measures are required. Below are the three most frequently asked questions about insurance requirements for a business intruder alarm.

Do I need an intruder alarm for my business?

A business intruder alarm is not a legal obligation, but in many cases your insurer does require an installation in line with the VRKI 2.0. Without a certified installation, your insurer may refuse cover or raise the premium. During the intake we assess together which level suits your premises and sector.

What is my risk class under the VRKI 2.0?

The VRKI 2.0 places premises into four risk classes based on the value of the contents, the type of business and the location. Class 1 is low risk, class 4 is very high. During the intake we determine your class via the intake document, together with the minimum combination of detection, signalling and response for your business intruder alarm.

What measures does a certified security solution include?

The VRKI 2.0 distinguishes five types of measure: organisational, structural, electronic (intruder detection, CCTV and access control), response (alarm receiving centre and response) and compartmentalisation. Cebec fully covers the electronic and the response elements of your business security system and aligns the design with the existing structural situation.

Your system

What goes into a sound business intruder alarm?

A professional intruder alarm installation for your business consists of six components that together form the intruder protection. We combine reliable hardware, smart control and a direct connection to the alarm receiving centre into a business intruder alarm that suits the scale and risk profile of your premises.

Perimeter protection

The first line of detection. Magnetic and vibration contacts on windows and doors register a break-in attempt before the intruder is even inside.

Intruder alarm with alarm receiving centre

In the event of an alarm, the signal goes straight to the alarm receiving centre (ARC). After verification, the appropriate response is deployed via a keyholder, a security service or the police. An intruder alarm connected to an ARC is generally an insurance requirement for higher VRKI classes. More on monitoring & alarm response →

App-based control

Arm and disarm remotely, receive push notifications on alarm and see who operated the system and when. Across multiple sites too.

Integration

Linked to CCTV, access control and lighting. This turns your business security system into a coherent whole and makes alarm response more effective.

Motion detection

Detectors in every zone that register human movement inside the premises. For standard zones we use PIR detectors; in higher-risk areas such as loading docks or zones exposed to outdoor conditions we use dual-technology detectors (PIR plus microwave). We tune sensitivity and coverage per zone to prevent false alarms without missing a genuine intrusion.

VEB-certified

On completion you receive a VEB certificate in line with EN 50131. Annual maintenance keeps your system reliable and your certification valid.

Brands & systems

Which intruder alarm brands do we use?

We choose the intruder alarm brand that best suits the scale of your premises, the requirements of your insurer and the integration capabilities you need. For every type of business intruder alarm we work with proven manufacturers.

Applications

For which businesses do we install an intruder alarm?

Intruder detection is applied to virtually every type of commercial premises. The risk profile, the insurance requirement and the desired integration with other systems differ from sector to sector. Below are the six types of premises for which we most often design and install a business intruder alarm.

Office premises

A classic application for a business intruder alarm. Often combined with access control, so that the alarm arms and disarms automatically based on the first and last pass. Read more on offices & businesses.

Distribution centres and logistics

High-value stock, loading docks and large floor areas call for a scalable business intruder alarm. Often with TAPA requirements and links to CCTV and the alarm receiving centre for verification of every alarm. Read more on industry & logistics.

Production and workshops

Machinery, tools and raw materials are attractive targets outside working hours. We protect workshops, production halls and the associated storage with an intruder alarm installation that combines perimeter protection and motion detection.

Shops and retail

Beyond night-time burglary, also hold-up alarms and safe protection. A retail security system is always connected to the alarm receiving centre and often integrated with CCTV for live verification. Read more on retail.

Healthcare institutions

Silent alarms in cases of aggression or hold-up, wander detection and a discreet link to the care control room. The intruder alarm works alongside the fire detection system and must not disrupt clinical practice. Read more on healthcare.

Construction sites and land

Temporary locations with changing boundaries call for mobile solutions. We combine outdoor detection cameras and CCTV masts with AI detection and direct response from the alarm receiving centre. Read more on perimeter & site security.

Monitoring & alarm response

What happens when the alarm goes off?

An intruder alarm without response is just a siren. Effective as a deterrent, but it does not stop an intruder who knows that no one will respond. That is why, for every commercial property, we recommend an intruder alarm connected to an alarm receiving centre, in other words a connection to a certified alarm centre that verifies and follows up on every alarm.

On an alarm, the alarm receiving centre receives the signal immediately. Depending on the protocol, it first verifies the alarm, by telephone or by video verification. We then deploy the appropriate response. That may be the keyholder, a patrol service or the police. We arrange the full connection and signalling.

  • 24/7 staffed alarm centre 365 days a year
  • Video verification When linked to CCTV
  • Patrol service Physical check on site
  • App notifications Straight to your phone

Frequently asked questions

A small office with a basic installation starts at a few thousand euros; for larger premises or a higher VRKI class the investment rises. The total cost depends on the size of the premises, the number of zones to be protected and the security level required under the VRKI 2.0. We always draw up a tailored security plan first, so that you know in advance exactly what the business intruder alarm will cost and which components it includes.

A business intruder alarm is serviced at least annually by a certified security company. Without this annual maintenance you lose your VEB certificate under the VRKI 2.0, and the certificate is then valid for only 1 year instead of 5. During the service visit we carry out the functional tests in line with the VEB certification scheme, check the detectors, control panel, batteries and the signalling to the alarm receiving centre, and update the logbook of your installation. Depending on your risk class under the VRKI 2.0, we align the maintenance frequency and scope. You can read more about this on the service and maintenance page.

Yes. We design in line with the VRKI 2.0 and deliver with a VEB certificate. This is the officially recognised proof that your installation meets all applicable requirements. If your insurer has set specific requirements, we incorporate these into the design.

With an intruder alarm connected to an alarm receiving centre, the centre receives the signal from your business intruder alarm immediately. Depending on the protocol, the alarm is first verified, for example by telephone or by video verification. The agreed response is then deployed. Without a connection to an alarm receiving centre, you receive a push notification on your phone and the siren sounds. Read more about our monitoring and alarm response on the separate monitoring & alarm response service page.

Yes. Many businesses switch to Cebec because their current installer is ceasing operations, the service falls short or the system is outdated. We carry out a takeover inspection, document any defects and determine which components we can reuse and what needs renewing. After a successful check we recertify the installation under VRKI 2.0 and issue a new VEB certificate. From that point, the service and annual maintenance rest with us, regardless of the original brand.

Preventing false alarms begins with the design. Based on the risk assessment, we determine which zones need which detection technology and dimension the detectors so that normal activity does not trigger an alarm. In higher-risk outdoor areas we use dual-technology detectors that must trigger on both infrared and microwave before an alarm is raised. During the annual maintenance we recalibrate the detectors to the current situation of your premises. When linked to CCTV, the alarm receiving centre verifies every alarm by image verification before a patrol or the police is deployed.

Yes, and on virtually every modern installation this is standard. The link with CCTV & video surveillance enables video verification, allowing the alarm receiving centre to view the scene immediately on an alarm and filter out false alarms. The link with access control ensures the alarm arms and disarms automatically based on the first and last pass. For multi-site organisations we provide central control of all components under one contract via integrated installation management.
